You have to do your work early. Many young athletes today think that they can prove their worth in the game. That’s not true. You have to prove your worth in practice. There are 3 things you should do to get the coach’s attention.
First, ask a lot of questions and show your interest and knowledge to the coach. Show that you want to fully understand all aspects of the game.
Next, you have to fill the role. Whatever the coach asks you to do, DO IT. This is the most important step because many players fail to fill the role that their coach asks of them. By filling the role, you are making yourself an asset to the coach.
Finally, execute the game plan. This goes beyond your role. You must know the full game plan so that you are doing what you are supposed to do at all times of the game. Somebody can have all the talent in the world, but they won’t be useful to the team if they don’t know how to run any of the plays.
