For basketball, faster isn’t necessarily the most important thing. What is important is agility and acceleration. Agility is measured in how quick you are able to change direction. And your acceleration is measured by how long it takes for you to go from a slow jog to a full sprint. For youth age groups (5th grade and younger), play multiple sports to improve motor skills. If you happen to be older than that, I would recommend completing agility drills such as ladders, shuttle runs, and lateral plyometric jumps.
